Strader-Ferris International, a Customs Brokerage and logistics company located in the Ottawa area is seeking a full-time programmer to help bring their B2B web infrastructure to the next level.

What we are trying to do
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

* provide a logistics portal for small and medium sized business so they can manage their warehousing, shipping, and customs' clearance needs

* deliver easy to use tools for our clients to improve the satisfaction of their customers

* invest in customized integration between customers' systems and our platform

* maintain flexibility, architecture, and fearlessness to respond to client-specific needs faster and better than larger competitors, in as close to real-time as possible

How we are doing this
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

* expanding our integration with the api offerings of business partners such as UPS, FedEx, and other transportation providers to create a carrier 'agnostic' experience for our end users

* enhancing our back office functionality as it relates to billing and reconciliation of charges and document management in order to reduce overhead for customers

* standardizing data sources to enable various business partners to exchange data

* automating the creation and flow of Customs-related data between our offices and U.S. and Canada Customs to make cross-border trade seamless

Technical Details
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Our current code base is mainly in Python. Additional experience with the following items would be considered an asset:

* XML, XSLT, and XPath
* XHTML, CSS, and Javascript
* SQL databases, Firebird, DB2
* XML Databases, eXist, DB2
* Zope, ZPT
* SQLAlchemy
* Designing and implementing browser-based user interfaces based on REST principals
* Subversion, Mercurial
* Linux or BSD development environment

The pluses

We are a real asset-based company with warehouses, trucks, existing customers, and over 50 years of success.
You would work in conjunction with another full-time lead developer to establish and reach critical milestones.
Input into all stages of design and development is encouraged and guaranteed.

Salary
~~~~~~

$60k+ based upon experience, flexible working arrangements, telecommute.

What else you need to know
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This position may involve meeting and working with Ottawa-based clients from time to time to support integration efforts. Travel to our Prescott, Ontario and Ogdensburg, New York offices for regular meetings on progress and priorities will be required, most likely 1-2 times per month
