2004 OCLUG BOD Platform
OCLUG should be the kind of place I can let my kids participate in... Unfortunately today, thats far from reality. I'd like to see things get back to an inviting and friendly atmosphere. To get there, I believe that OCLUG requires some additional structure.
- I'd like to have greater OCLUG participation in community and regional events to raise awareness.
- I'd like to leverage my social network to encourage more talks from out of town speakers to keep things fresh.
- Use some of the surplus funds to purchase necessities such as a projector so our meetings can be more productive.
- Foster better relationships with area corporations to increase membership and seek out sponsorship opportunities.
- Revise the website to add new content and make the existing content standards compliant and maybe even bilingual.
- Establish policies for mailing list content. We should not drive away membership by making the list a free for all.
- Find other opportunities similar to OCLUG KNOPPIX to increase Linux and OSS exposure while pushing the OCLUG brand.
- Get more members involved!
If Elected
- I'd like to be responsible for coordinating things that need doing with volunteers. A more formal help wanted posting system would be ideal since right now volunteers have no way of knowing what needs doing.
- I'd also like to be the one who reaches out to other local user groups and gets us tied in with them. It would be nice to see more cross participation between the groups.
- Encourage the use of the diverse skillset of the OCLUG member base. We are lucky to have a large number of very talented people in a relatively small city. We should be using this talent better by delegating tasks to experts in the subject matter.
