Programming Olympics 2007

This page is for discussing ways to solve the Algonquin College 2007 Programming Olympics Challenges using Open Source Software.

Ideally, students/teams will ask questions here and they will be answered.

To ask a question here, scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Edit". If necessary, enter a wiki name (it's a spam prevention measure - you can use a fake id if you want). Edit the page in the text box - use preview to check your changes, then when you're happy with your changes click save. It may take a day or two to get an answer - once the answer is there - it will stay there for future reference and for all to see (in the spirit of open source software).

Winners!

• It was tough to choose the winner from the two teams Deep Indigo and Apathy

• We choose Deep Indigo as the winner

  • Team members Ethan, Mirza, Liam, Xian each will get a cheque for $125
• Congratulations to the winning team

• The cheques have been written out to the team members and signed!
• The cheques are in the mail (2007 May 17)

Advantages of Open Source Software

• The two teams that won first and second prize from Algonquin, were the two teams we had trouble choosing between for the OCLUG prize.
• We didn't know those were the teams that Algonquin was considering - the prizes were awarded by different sets of judges, completely independently.
• It seems that Open Source software may give programmers an edge in competitive situations!
