Date: October 6, 2011 at
7 p.m.
Location: Algonquin College (Woodroffe Campus), room B159
NOTE: Thursday OCT 6.
Thomas Edison once used a bit of automation to do his job while he slept or did something else. Science aided his everyday railway job. We can use some similar ideas.
The speaker will show some scientific software tools and suggest some non-laboratory uses of tools that have been developed, particularly in automating reports, helping in classroom learning, and sometimes just for fun.
We'll look into the case of the terrorists from the Society for the Promotion of Math Anxiety who go out one night and add one foot of rail to the western rail of the O-train in a welded section 1 mile long. The rail bows out as a circular arc. But how far apart are the rails at the maximum distance?
