First choce is proably what is in the sourceforge documentation, they
often will have ideas of where to put something.

Second choice is to follow the Unix convetions and place it in a
subdirectory like /usr/local/programName

The needed Libraries may be explained by the documentation on source
forge. You will have to get them and place them where they expect to live.

No, they don't seem to have very much in the way of documention, they DO
have a help forum at
http://sourceforge.net/projects/freefilesync/forums/forum/847543
that may be able to assist.

Most of the work is generaly done by the "packager for the distribution.
if there is a DEB file of the program, it will know what work is needed.
