[oclug] Where to Buy a Linux Notebook?

Mine was bought a year ago, and I still love it. No, I did not pay the
Microsoft tax. It was the ASUS Eee PC 900. I was looking to get
something a bit more powerful, and visited Laurier Computers. I was a
bit disappointed to hear from someone there that all netbooks now come
with Windows, and that anyway, Microsoft is "giving away" the XP
licenses.

I don't think this is entirely true, and that there is still some money
given to Micro$oft. On the other hand, I know there are a place in
Canada (Vancouver) where you can order a Windows-free notebook. This is
system76. For myself, I'd be willing to order from them to avoid giving
money to Micro$oft. On the other hand, if I save more money by buying
locally than it costs for Windows, the bottom line would make me buy
locally, supporting our local folks here.

I guess that's a personal choice. But the ASUS netbooks are very good
ones so far.

 Hi,

I'm thinking of buying a Linux notebook or cheap laptop and I don't
want
to pay the Microsoft tax. I looked at the OCLUG web site but searching
did not find a buying guide so I'm asking here.

Is there any stores in Ottawa, or Eastern Ontario or western Québec
that
 sells a Linux-only notebook?

Programming is as much about organization and communication
 as it is about coding.

I like Perl; it's the only language where you can bless your
 thingy.
