[oclug] vobsub and avi to dvd problem

I have several avi files with accompanying vobsubs (idx and sub files)
that I would like to burn to dvd. Whaile I can easily convert the avi's
to mpeg, I can't find a Linux tool that will add the vobsubs. Smplayer
and mplayer will display them properly. I haven't tried piping their
output to an mpeg converter as I would prefer to keep the subtitles
selectable.

Any suggestions?
