[oclug] No media in drive

Can anyone tell me why I keep getting told that there's no media in my
CD/DVD drive when there is? I can mount, read, write, umount and eject
CDs but only very occasionally can I do so with DVDs. I am using Fedora
7 and this used not to happen. I looked at mtab and fstab but they seem
to be OK. Has anyone any ideas as to how I can fix this irritating
problem?

PS this CD/DVD drive has been on my system for a couple of years at
least and it always works OK on other distros and earlier Fedoras.
