Interesting initiative that some of you may already have heard of:
http://www.freedomtoaster.org/

Would be a great initiative for OCLUG to take on. Would be a first in
Canada (North America perhaps) so would be a sought after media story.
Great way to spread FOSS and promote OCLUG all at the same time.
Might even be a project that would lend itself well to a partnership
with a company such as ExitCertified (providing partnering with
industry does not contravene any principles of the project).

The people best served by such a project would be an area where high
speed is sparse. But on the flip side the greatest exposure would be
gained by putting this in a more populated area.

The idea behind this is to provide people with a free & convenient way
to burn FOSS to CD/DVD. The Freedom Toaster would have ISO images for
various Linux distros, for OpenOffice and other such FOSS applications
designed for a FOSS OS.

Places like Used Computer Books and other such places that sell used
computer equipment would no doubt be good avenues to post flyers about
the Freedom Toaster. Great way for someone to put life back into some
of those older PCs.

If there appears to be enough interest then it should be raised at the
next meeting and a committee struck to make it happen.
