[oclug] NCD xterm setup

I have the  xterm booting with  tftp/bootp
and I can telnet to my main machine and start an xterm 
but the xterm does not fully open because it does not have any fonts.

xfs is running 

In the ncd how-to there was mention of 4 config files on the host, but there 
were no details on what these contain  One was a fonts.dir

Can anyone shed light on getting it to work? 

I can get Konqueror to open but it is largely unreadable,
firefox fails to open on the xterm 

XDMCP also does not get a login prompt
