<tongue in cheek>
Where have all the charitable and non-commercial people gone?
<silly cheap and evocative call to walk away from a commercial product>
You should
</silly cheap and evocative call to walk away from a commercial product>
be advocating another linux product: The One laptop Per Child computer.
It does not matter that the product was designed for the third world.
</tongue in cheek>
The One Laptop Per Child machine.
It is a non-commercial choice.
You donate either U.S.$400.00 or U.S.200.00 at
www.laptopgiving.org
This buys a laptop for a third world child.
The $400 choice gives you a laptop.
The $200 choice only gives a laptop to a third world child.
The third world computer gets reused at the end of the year to teach
another child, until it wears out.
A caution: One Laptop Per Child is a U.S. charity. Ontario residents
need U.S. income if they want to deduct the U.S. charitable donation
from their income.
(Another opinion: John C. Dvorak
<http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,2227850,00.asp#>, at
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,2227850,00.asp,
says donating money to a charity so the charity can buy a bag of rice
does the same thing).
<http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,2227850,00.asp#>Is the One Laptop
Per Child thing real? Well, if it is not, they are going to a lot of
trouble to fake it.
See www.olpcnews.com
<the Follow Me call - you knew it was coming>
I shelled out for a $400.00 donation.
The laptops to Canada will be shipped in January or February.
