You may have to dig up a modeline for it. Google for it. Most video
cards made in the last 5 years should support it. LCD screens look
much better with DVI. Consider a cheap DVI capable card you don't
already have one.

Generally it is a non issue.

You might benefit from wide screen. It depends on how you use your
computer. Most of my computer us involves a single window
maximized. Widescreen is next to useless for this. One the other hand
I can fit two 80 col xterms side by side with no overlap and use a
good legible font. Widescreen is great for any sort of development
work. You can read the docs on one half of the screen and work on the
other.
