Is anyone using a wide-format display?
1280x1024 LCD has been fine for me, but the wife is rearranging her office
and needs to lose the bulk of her CRT. So she'd get my current LCD and I'd
get a new one. TigerDirect has a WXGA unit (1400x900), but I'm not sure if:
a) there's any benefit over a regular-format 19-inch LCD like my current one
b) if the WXGA is nicely/transparently supported by current Linux distros (I
have SUSE 10.1).
I know it's nominally supported, but reading that doesn't tell me about real
life.
Anybody? Is there any risk of images and other stuff being horizontally
stretched, or is the aspect-ratio stuff pretty well automatic and a
non-issue (as is seems to be with dual-head)?
Advice or recent anecdotes appreciated.
I realize that if I saved up a few thousand additional pennies, I could get
a higher-resolution wide-screen and have loveliness, but I'm just wondering
if there's any advantage to wide, at the cheap end, when resolution is
roughly the same as a regular-aspect screen of similar price and specs.
Thanks,
Kevin
