Ubuntu put GRUB in a really secure spot on the drive.
Low end MS-DOS cannot fdisk Ubuntu away,
to set up a dual boot system.

There has been much too much thought and effort put into the sudo stuff for
me to call it deviant.
Downright strange is my best choice of description,
until I find an advantage to it.
