I think it's really just hit and miss.  Perhaps D-Link anecdotally has
more misses than hits, but I know that I've had perfect luck with my
current (and first, and only) D-Link 802.11g router.

I also bought bought two 802.11g Belkin WAPs, back in the day when
there was actually enough of a price gap between WAPs and wireless
routers for stores to sell them.  One has worked 100% perfectly to
date (and I'm writing this on it).  One never worked reliably at all.

I've had a few problems with an 802.11b LinkSys at my parents' house,
but I've yet to determine if the problem is with their box or my own
802.11g USB ndiswrapper-based card.
