Okay I managed to guess the password for the router..

it doesn't have any obviously culprit settings. The routing table is
empty. IP filter table is empty.

Firewall rules don't seem related.

It actually has a ping test feature which results in a timeout for
sdf.lonestar.org. The name resolves and the timeout happens
immediately, strangely.

It looks like the modem connects to Rogers via DHCP and uses DNS 
24.153.22.67 and 24.153.23.66. Doesn't look like I can affect this. I
guess setting a different DNS on my machine might not make a
difference.

Shrug.
