Yes, apparently a common Usenet joke. But try a Google search for
'nt vms os/2'. All the articles discuss the similarities between
NT and VMS (of which there are apparently many), and one goes so
far as to say it's 'VMS re-implemented', but none suggest it
actually came from VMS.
Most declare it as OS/2 version 3.0 with the Windows GUI placed on top
and rebranded as Windows NT. At least one or two books I've read also
concur with this.
Google as a determiner of truth is never a fully reliable method, but
in this case, it seems to concur with what I already thought I knew.
