Hi; All suggestions welcome -- but I think you have to be married to
understand the true significance of this question.
I want to hide/eliminate the Linux boot loader on my wife's XP machine
after I install Linux -- but I want to be able to dual boot myself after
Windows XP is running.
Let me explain.
I have a small two machine LAN at home. 1 machine is mine - the
Basement Box. I dual boot into either Linux or XP; mainly Linux FC3
these days. My wife's computer is in the upstairs office and is the
Office Computer. She uses Windows XP exclusively.
She has an 80 Gb hard drive of which she never uses more than 6 Gb. I
want to install a small Linux OS like ubantu or even Koppix so that I
can play around with networking problems, questions etc.
Now, I have been married to this Lady for over thirty years and love her
dearly but have slowly and with a great deal of difficulty learnt a
thing or two. One is don't mess with her computer. I have her
agreement (probably fleeting and tentative, and therefore time
sensitive) that I can install Linux on a separate partition on her
machine; but I also know it would be a good thing if she wasn't
continually reminded that _I_ had installed Linux. (Every time
something on her computer went wrong it would be Linux's -- consequently
my -- fault. Trust me. From experience, I know).
So, what I would like to be able to do is have her/me start her computer
as normal (no grub, lilo or boot magic) but after I am in XP I would be
able to use some command, icon or file to reboot into Linux.
Is this possible?
Or, is there a better solution?
Regards Bill
