Hi All,
This is an update to the Fedora Core 2 to Fedora Core 3 upgrade.
So far, I'm not impressed with the upgrade. Many things did not work. One
example was Open Office. It would try to start and then the process would
disappear. So I thought, "I'll just remove it and re-install.". With great
confidence I tried that and it failed. I could not remove the package
because some libraries were missing. So I now have a catch 22 problem and
went to the Fedora Update site and decided to update Open Office. After the
usual menus and mouse clicks, I had an updated Open Office and bingo it now
works. I have not updated any other packages, but I'm assuming that after
you "upgrade" you also have to update from the Fedora site if you 1) want to
use a package or/and 2) you want to delete a package using the standard
utilities.
I had a copy of Mozilla under Core 2 and the upgrade installs Firefox which
I like. Unfortunately it seems to "remove" the links to Mozilla and so the
Icons don't start Mozilla, but neither do they start Firefox.
Now I can't remember if I am here to drain the swamp or wrestle the
alligators, maybe both.
"...and Fedora Core 1 begat Fedora Core 2 and Fedora Core 2 begat Fedora
Core 3 and Linus saw that it had a few glitches." -- Linus Chap. 5 verse 9.
PS. For those who are not into the Christian Bible, begat is the word they
use to describe what we call today "Doing the dirty.".
Frank
