Quite true - if you're going to be shooting nice static subjects.
However, if you're going after anything that moves and/or you are going
to have to be moving around, you are going to want all the help you can
get from the camera. If you're in an exciting, unnerving, or dangerous
situation,a super light camera is more likely to permanently record your
adrenaline rush (shake) than a nice heavy beast. In those situations you
had better know how to use your camera strap-arms-body as a tripod.
-or you can simply get yourself the software that is used on television
programes like CSI - you know, the ones that can dramatically increase
the resolution and focus of a cheap security camera to the point that
you can read a (now razor sharp) logo on a distant moving object - hee-
hee.
Which reminds me - I recall reading about programs that will stack
images and use the composite data to increase resolution and sharpen
images. I came across the reference on, and saw samples of this, on some
long-forgotten amateur astronomer site. Does anybody remember what this
program might be and if it's available to linux users? (you'd definitely
need a tripod for this situation)
Now I'm off to find enough time to have a serious look at Richard's
photographs.
