First do a search for preferred models on http://www.linux-laptop.net/
then see whats required for what model and you will be rock'n. Only
things to watch out for on older IBMS is the sound system "mwave" as
these "generally" are not supported. Im partial to IBM's laptops (owned
three so far) as they make excellent products that are overprived yes,
but build like a brick. Any modern distro will install in 20 minutes or
less so dont be too intimidated to tackle ir. There are many here who
will help if you get stuck and its a very good learning lesson..:)
