application to work on a 12bit color map because there is no X servers which
support it.
There is a program which you may want to look into which MIGHT solve your
problem (It has the same SGI Libs for OpenGL) called
http://www.metrolink.com (Metro-X 4.3.5 X11R6).
If anyone happens to know of an X server which affectively uses the 12bit
SGI Color Maps I would be interested in hearing from you as it's quite the
bottleneck for us at present.

Tom

Subject: RE: [oclug] NVidia Drivers and X Windows
From what I know of this (and I'm openly admitting that GL programming is
not my strong point), the libraries on each machine might be a part of the
problem. The SGI OpenGL & releated libs and the RH 6.2 OpenGL & related libs
are not the same, me thinks.
I'm just using an example from a couple of students having the same
problem over at Algonquin's Linux lab, trying to run the apps from the SGI
lab - and, yes, I did figure out that it sounds like that's what you're
doing :)
But I also remember our ITS support tech for the SGI lab saying that the
libraries are mildly incompatible and could cause problems when trying to do
this from the SGI to the RH machines and vice versa.

I run GL apps locally on RedHat 6.2 with XFree 4.0.1 using the drivers
supplied by NVidia. Everything runs fine apps are accelerated and no
problems.
Now here is the strange thing. When I try to run an OpenGL app accross
our network from and SGI machine things start to get screwy. The
window which shows the 3D accelerated image seems to take ownership of
the piece of the desktop where it was originally opened.
So have any of you ever run into this and if you have how did you fix
it?
If this helps I think the app that causes the problems uses GTK.
Sincerely,
Patrick Ouellette
