Tragic and terrible without question and children shouldn't have to see
it. On the other hand have you ever allowed them to watch a National
Geographic wildlife program, for example, which features such charming
scenes as a cheetah taking down a gazelle or wild african dogs taking
some larger creature or the classic - a lion taking down anything? For
some reason that is 'the terrible beauty' of nature. Local animals doing
what they do is not. Odd that.

I don't watch nature specials. Can't stand that much suffering packed
into one hour and always had the feeling that it is somehow titillating
for its intended audience.

I would have chased the crows off if I had seen it happening as I'm sure
you would have. Perhaps feeding them makes such things a trifle less
necessary? Hmm... perhaps that is a bit like extortion - feed us or we
eat the cuties?

Hmmm again... a dominatrix in a glossy black feather outfit? I should
stop now.
