There is a different version of the story today on The Register :
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/04/06/torvalds_bitkeeper/

Buried in the KernelTrap article are the statements that BitKeeper
spends $500,000 dollars a year supporting the free version, that the
feature requirements for the two products were diverging, and that
BitKeeper felt it was no longer benefitting.

The KernelTrap article gives a clear impression that OSDL was colluding
with its employee to clone BitKeeper. The Register points out he was
doing it on his own time where OSDL has no business interfering.

There are quite a few more instances where the same facts are supported
by different perspectives and presentations, where KernelTrap wishes the
story to be seen as yet another sorry episode in the ''debate regarding
"Free as in Freedom" versus "Free as in Free Beer"''. Obviously, one's
political outlook would strongly influence whether one agrees with this
approach and how one evaluates the facts.
