FYI -- I wasn't pointing to "clean and efficient interfaces" as
the opposite of eye candy, merely that I felt it was more
important for things to work right, work fast, and get the job
done than to look pretty.

[Just a quick reply to make one point clear -- the rest is mostly
either agree-to-disagree, or in some cases, plain agree.]
