[oclug] ISP woes & question...

I'm not sure what happened to them, but it feels like Digital Networks has
gone down the drain.

A few months ago, they moved their offices to Prescott, and customers
weren't able to make on-line payments to accounts anymore. All of a
sudden, and without any notice.

Then on Friday, the service went down and hasn't come back up since. An
announcement on their phone system said that they were having issues with
Bell Canada and that it would be repaired on Saturday afternoon, but it
wasn't. Why am I dubiously suspicious that they're going or gone out of
business? (Rhetorical question... I've pretty much decided that the
writing is on the wall at any rate.)

So. I'm in the market for a wireless ISP in North Grenville. Looking at
Storm and RipNet, but the latter appears to be rather expensive. I don't
see how it could cost $1289.72 to install a wireless drop, and 270.00 for
administrative fees. If it was rock solid reliable, I might be more
accepting of that cost.

Also considering getting a backup DSL Lite or something ... just in case,
because my kids keep annoying the c*#p out of me whenever they can't get
their e-mail.

I'd be interested in + or - stories about either Storm or RipNet.

Rod.
