While I agree with both points of view expressed in this thread. I 
would suggest that people's feelings can be more important at times 
than hashing out the truth through discussion. There are limits on free 
debate as we limit free speech a little more in Canada than in the USA. 
I have looked at the free speech debate a little and tend to like the 
Canadian view including the new law about taking down hate web pages.

I have many discussions on the net and only seem to hurt the feelings 
of close friends I meet in RL when I send them email. Most of my other 
virtual friends seem to have thick skins even though most of them like 
me are sensitive consumers of mental health services.

But sure have a look at the Parliament sometime on TV. These 
politicians are mature adults but you wouldn't guess that watching them 
on TV.
