I go across the river, to enjoy those same hills, our country.  The sky 
opens and soaks me to the bone.  Leaning against the slightly less wet 
side of an oak, watching the clearing turn into a temporary puddle, I'm 
thinking this used to be so much fun!

It still is, if you step out of bourgeois civilization into nature, lift 
your face to the sky and say, "Touch me."

The Columban Christians refused to put roofs on their churches.  They 
said all that timber and such, and especially those beautiful sculptures 
and paintings, shut God away from them at the times when they most 
needed Him close.


If you have the space, put in a native hardwood, something which will 
outlive your grandchildren.
