It could also just be your CD drive. I had the identical problem
installing Mandrake
on an old 400 Mhz machine. However, I don't know if it was a Mandrake
problem
or a drive/BIOS/something_else problem because I only ever use
Mandrake.

In my case, I had to open up a console window and manually mount the
CDROM
each time it wanted me to switch disks. For some reason, the
automounting was not
working. Even that didn't always work, but it usually did eventually,
I seem to recall.

Alternatively, you can just tell it to cancel the install for the 2nd
and 3rd CD's, and then
install whatever you feel is missing later on - this is actually a lot
easier than perhaps
it sounds. Mandrake does a very full install from the 1st CD, just
like any other distro.

Anyways, I had the same sort of problem you are describing (identical I
think), and
it was _not_ a defective CD, it was some sort of problem with the
automounting of
the drive.
