[oclug] computer shopping

I've had great experience with Deals Direct, but I've never purchased a complete system from them. I only purchased parts, and I've done so on many occasions. They have always stood behind their products and the staff is very knowledgeable.

That being said, I purchased a complete AMD system from RefurbComputers.ca for $399.99 (now it's $369.99). It's a white box system that was new (i.e. not refurbished) and has performed very well for me. They only thing I did was upgrade the RAM from 128MB to 512MB. As for support, I never used it and they offer a 30-day warranty on the system with the store plus whatever manufacturers' warranties are available for the individual components. I would definitely recommend you look into this.

Cheers,
BB

Subject: [oclug] computer shopping

Hello again:
Thanks everyone for the tips. There are some names I never considered
and others that I do know about. I've heard good and bad things about
Sprint and will avoid the other ones that were identified as bad risks.
However, there are a few stores that have not been mentioned yet and I was
wondering if others have had good or bad experiences with:

        Deals Direct (on Canotek Road)

The Flat Planet (on Bank Street) and

Global Mart Business Networks (near Ogilvie & Blair)

Again, any ideas or suggestions are appreciated.
cheers,
Mike
