Yes, I just did and they're separately playable. This is not true of
.avi files. Very cool.
Also, I was wrong about mplayer's documentation. It has quite good
documentation, if you build it. It's all in docbook format. Now that
I've built it, it has offered some interesting tidbits, like converting
between mpg and avi in both directions, and resizing frames. I'm sure if
I add the -vop rotate=N command, I can control the rotation.
