Thanks Milan I seem to have it connected now. The message 'connection
refused' from the freenet IP address using telenet was a welcome sign.

Now... I seem to be a newbie at using ftp on the command line. I can
generally do this after a few tries on my eMac. I have done it on my
fedora machine. Rather than just tell me the command does some one know
a good web page for ftp commands that I can study and bookmark.

I am trying to go here and download files

ftp://ftp.egr.msu.edu/debian-archive/dists/slink/main/binary-i386/

I get the error message 'unknown host'. I think i need some like this
ftp ftp://ftp.egr.msu.edu/debian-archive/dists/slink/main/binary-i386/

but am not quite sure

oh and happy easter linux people
