[oclug] SCSI Troubleshooting

 Looking for advice on troubleshooting a SCSI problem.

 I added an Exabyte VXA-2 Ultra2 LVD/SE tape unit to the end of a 
Ultra160 chain that had only a Promise RAID unit on it. Everything 
booted up fine, the adapter recognized both units at their proper ID's 
as did linux (RH 8.0). I was able to write and restore to/from the tape 
successfully. I rebooted, everything came up but after a short while 
linux hung. I could ping the machine but could not access it using the 
terminal or via ssh. On reboot the SCSI adapter would not recognize 
either device. I disconnected the Exabyte, re terminated , and all was 
well again. The logs did not reveal anything suspicious.

 Anything obvious here? I must admit to be being confused by the million 
different specifications in SCSIland. From what I understand Ultra160 
uses LVD for termination so adding the Exabyte unit to the same bus 
should not be an issue?
