I know a guy who has a CS highest honers degree and 4 years writing test
scripts for telco stuff. He can't find nothing and is doing a masters in AI.
In 2000 they would hire someone who could learn how to do the job. Now you
have to prove that you already know how to do it.
You need to do a lot of research. I talked to a zillion people before
deciding to get the CISSP and GCIA. One consideration is that they cost under
$1000 each. Most company certs cost a lot more.
My second choice was to learn SAP, but that is more expensive.
I recently had a strange interview. A HR company called me in and asked a
bunch of very stupid questions. Hopefully this is a sign that the market is
picking up.

Getting a computer system to work is like banging your head against a brick
wall until the wall falls down.
