Jim Gettys wrote a nice document title "Open Source Desktop Technology Road 
Map" for Freedesktop.org. It gives a nice little summary of the various bits 
of software that fit together to make a Linux desktop. It is a good read for 
both newbies and old timers. I now have a better understanding of what goes 
into the big mess with call 'X.'
