Luckily (?), most HTML mail I receive comes from M$ Outhouse, and
it thoughtfully wastes bandwidth by repeating the message in plain-text
and putting the text/html and text/plain parts into a
multipart/alternative container. My mail filter simply deletes any
text/html if there's a corresponding text/plain in the same
multipart/alternative container. This eliminates 95% of the HTML
mail I would otherwise get.
My mail reader (Pine) does a fairly respectable job of rendering HTML
as plain-text, sans images, web bugs, JavaScript bombs, etc.
