Check out something like ez-ipupdate.  Programs like this will even
fetch the IP address of your router if you are using something like a
linksys between your box and the big-bad-internet.  It will notifiy
you only if your ip address changes.  Further, it hooks into services
like dyndns.org so that you can use run-of-the-mill DNS queries to
find your ip address.  (like franks.dnsalias.com :-)
