if you are unable to connect to the router's status page, there is a line in the ddclient.conf that tells ddclient to connect to the "predefined" ip address and obtain it from there. 

After some research you can code www.whatsmyip.com to be used by the ddclient.

	The line you are looking for is:


## To obtain an IP address from Web status page (using the proxy if defined)
#use=web, web=checkip.dyndns.org/, web-skip='IP Address' # found after IP Address

and you should have "use=web" uncommented.
