[oclug] resizing ntfs partition

A friend has asked me to install Linux (mdk 9.1) on his machine, but he wants
to keep XP and dual boot. The disk is formated with a single ntfs partition.
GNU parted does not resize ntfs, and partition magic is too expensive for a
single time use. Is there any other way? Can ntfs be converted to fat32
without data loss? If so, has anyone done this, and could you give me the
steps you followed?

Thanks
