Hi everybody!

The subject is clear, we use enternet100src_linux.zip to connect to the
PPPoE service provided by DSL.CA without any trouble.

However, from time to time the connection dies, even though we use the
"persist" option in the "start-pppoe" script:

# If you want your PPPoE connection to automatically reconnect if the
# connection should break, uncomment the next line.
PERSIST=persist

The logs as follows:

This goes on and on until a hardware reset to the modem is made. I have a script
in crond to check for the ppp0 interface and try to reconnect (every 5 minutes)

if [ -z "`/sbin/ifconfig | grep ppp`" ] ; then

/usr/local/bin/stop-pppoe
/sbin/ifconfig eth0 down
/sbin/ifconfig ppp0 down
/usr/local/bin/start-pppoe

fi

(if somebody has something better, please, share it! :)

Now, the question: who is to blame? the ISP? the modem? Linux?

The ADSL modem we use is: Daewoo DW-8050E, and our location is M4C 2S3
(East Toronto, 10 blocks north of Danforth and Main)

The ISP told us that they can change the ADSL modem but it will take 5 days
for them to "change something in their side" for us to have Internet again.
It means 5 days without Internet (something we cannot afford)

Is there something we can do? any suggestions?

I would appreciatte your comments and experiences.

Thanks!
