Consider your self lucky, becuase your card has a supported chipset, the new ones(Post 9/2002) don't.

I ended up purchasing a Dlink DWL-500 ( The pcmcia card and pci bridge) for $69. I was under the impression that it was only the bridge, but infact it was both bridge and pc card. 

Compiling = gack!? how so?. All real men compile. ;)
