In the Digital Content Creation world Apple has been gobbling up apps
like Shake, Rayz etc and making them MAC only.  This time it seems that
they want to give open source a try

1) I doubt many computer users know one bit about the Mac's new "Unix
Core"

2) It's no longer free software, it's been eaten by Apple.  It's now
Apple
software, ala BSD license.

3) This isn't a BSD or Unix list, it is a Linux list

All interesting points.  However, X11 will unlikely become standard on
OSX.  In fact, with Apples pathetic attitude towards closed-mindedness,
I'm very surprised they even did this.
