Sometimes:

I am using KDE at home, and tried to install the Gnome spreadsheet - while it 
was happy to run, it appeared to want to display everything in Unicode, so 
anything one typed was gibberish.  Another pass with YAST and out it went, 
although I beleve it left me a bononbo file or two as a legacy.

Mind you, gFTP is AFAIK also a Gnome app, and it runs quite well.
