I've had trouble with some cd's in my cd reader also.
My cd supplier said that older cd drives could read older
media, but you'd get these intermittent errors with older
cd drives and newer media, and did I want to buy a
cd drive from him?

I declined and had him burn a new set on older media.
His cd wouldn't have interfaced with my sparc system :-|

I had exactly the same problems:  intermittent sense errors...

I don't know if the problem is the media itself, or with the
device that wrote the cd.  He did write the cds to new media
for me and it worked.  I presume that he used the same drive
to write both sets.
