I know what you mean. Word choked and died when a book I was working on got
to about 150 pages. Corrupted the data badly too. A quick pop into Linux and
Star Office fixed it. At 285 pages Star Office still has no trouble with it.
Not sure I want to write a book in LaTeX but... :)
