The *first* shell you open when you run konsole takes 3 seconds (well,
more time than instantaneous anyway).  Each subsequent one comes up
pretty much instantaneously.

I really like konsole, it's the first xterm-like app to add
(useful) functionality to the standard xterm interface
(that I've heard of).
