[oclug]gentoo troubles

I have been contemplating that, but for me the entire and only appeal of
Gentoo was a complete ports install. The total optimization was what
overcame my resistance to it due to a lack of configuration tools (still a
lot of manual configuration of X etc.) and seamless integration of say an
MDK or RH product. (of course, not having actually used it yet, that
judgment is based purely on my readings of it).
Besides, I never give up. If I am good at anything it is being tenacious. I
will get it to work. Whether or not I keep it.. well nothing lasts long on
this machine :)
