[oclug]gentoo troubles

I am using the smaller one Live CD Basic.... I did not try the Unreal
Tournament version. I will give it a shot next.

I wish I could help Shad, but I am not sure what to suggest. Did you tell us
which install cd you used? I use sympatico dsl and used the live cd with
unreal tournament on it for installation, and it went flawless.

If I remember right I used adsl-setup. I told it to get dns servers from
sympatico rather than typing them in manually. I also didn't use any
firewall.


Some things to check (it sounded like you had checked already but maybe a
double check would catch something that was missed).

do you get an ip address from sympatico? /sbin/ifconfig   look for ppp0

can you resolve hostnames?  ping www.yahoo.com  does it give an unknown host
error

can you ping your gateway? ping 64.x.x.1

can you ping anyone else?  ping www.yahoo.com

are there any errors in the ppp error log? /var/log/ppp

does adsl-status tell you your connection is up?  adsl-status

Are there any wonky messages in /var/log/messages or on the console?


Anyway, hopefully you can get it going.
