You need to be selective at Trailing Edge and were right to avoid the drives.

If looking for something small, monitor the newsgroup ott.forsale.computing.

Good prices for new drives can be determined by picking up copies of free local computer magazines such as Monitor and The Computer Paper. Look for them in pharmacies, supermarkets, some street corners, computer stores.
