To make that statement totally accurate, this is only true for some
packages. Bell also offers higher speeds... none-the-less, when someone says
"hey, I've got DSL, and I want to do X"... it would seem to me to be a
pretty safe bet that the person is speaking of standard DSL packages.
Besides, even if he IS using the 3Mbit DSL, the speads are still only around
100K, which will NEVER be comparable to ethernet, and will likely never be
usable for anything other than printing.
What Mike should do... is wire each of the locations with dry pair (there's
other terminologies associated with this technology, see
http://www.pbs.org/cringely/pulpit/pulpit20010823.html for a great article
from Robery Cringely). Sure, there's a considerable amount of investment in
equipment, but after that the monthly rate should be fairly reasonable (I've
heard estimates of around $40-50 from Bell), AND the speeds can be 2MBit
bi-directional!
